My Current Draft

Detailed Reasoning Behind Each Player and Chip Strategy

My current draft is below. Chip strategy is BB1 WC4-6.

Kinsky

De Zerbi has confirmed that he will start the season in goal for Spurs, suggesting they won’t buy another goalkeeper.

I believe that Spurs will improve massively this season, and even last season, after De Zerbi came in, their defence wasn’t bad at all.

Williams

Oliver Glasner has now gone to Nottingham Forest, which should mean we see a 3 at the back formation with wing-backs.

Neco Williams is perfect for this wing-back role and could replicate Muñoz-like production.

Mosquera

Saliba looks to be out for the first few weeks of the season, meaning that Mosquera should deputise.

If Arsenal look close to signing a new centre back, then I will move off of Mosquera.

Calafiori

When he’s fit, there aren’t many better full-backs in the league in terms of attacking threat, as he takes up the most ridiculous attacking positions.

I believe that he is firmly first choice over Hincapie.

Fernandes

In my opinion, he is the most essential player to own at the start of this season.

He has so many routes to points and even at £12.0m, he’s worth it.

Mbeumo

I’m not 100% set on Mbeumo, he could be Foden, Wirtz or even Semenyo.

However, he is likely to get minutes up front at the start of the season, and United start with two fantastic fixtures.

Groß

He has so many routes to points: defensive contributions, penalties and set-pieces.

He’s basically a mini-Bruno and is great value at £5.5m

Szoboszlai

Another player that is similar to Bruno Fernandes in that he’s on set-pieces, is good for defensive contributions, and is potentially on penalties.

I don’t love that he’s playing quite deep in pre-season, but that shouldn’t be an issue given the way Liverpool set up.

Haaland

As long as he gets minutes in the Community Shield, he’ll be in my team.

João Pedro

15 goals last season in a pretty poor Chelsea side, which should improve this season.

Under Xabi Alonso, with Rogers and Palmer in behind him, he could make a mockery of his £7.5m price tag.

Calvert-Lewin

His finishing can lack at times, but he’s on penalties, should get good minutes, so he’s just a nice safe pick.

I am still slightly tempted to go with Brian Brobbey for the fixtures, but DCL is the safer play.

Verbruggen

The second-best goalkeeper in the £4.5m price bracket.

I expect Brighton to be good this year, so rotating Verbruggen and Kinsky could work well for the first few weeks.

Shaw

United have two fantastic fixtures to start the season and look relatively solid defensively under Carrick.

If a new left back is linked, I will move to a different £4.5m defender.

Diop

This could be any £4.0m defender that looks likely to play in GW1.

I only need them for GW1 when I bench boost, and I like the Ipswich fixture.

Gomez

Gomez looks nailed to start on the wing for Brighton with Mitoma out injured.

Another player that I should only need for GW1 and is more exciting than the deeper midfielders at £5.0m.

Chip Strategy

The first few weeks of the season is when we learn the most about team setups, systems, and players.

This season, that’s amplified by the fact that there are so many new managers.

For this reason, I like wildcarding early once a few weeks of information has been gained.

The windows for this are GW4 or GW6.

I would like to stretch to GW6 if possible, as this is after a big international break.

Given there is no starting £4.0m goalkeeper, it makes sense to pair the bench boost with the wildcard rather than carrying an expensive bench.

Therefore, I’ll be looking to bench boost before I play the early wildcard and then move to a lean, cheap bench after I have wildcarded.
