You’re picking the WRONG defenders in your FPL team

Pick these 5 Defenders instead!

Ollie Watkins - £9.0m

Watkins is extremely underpriced at £9.0m.

Firstly, he’s absolutely nailed as Villa have very little in the way of other strikers right now.

With Asensio and Rashford now gone, he may be on penalties. Although it’s quite likely that Tielemans is above him in the pecking order.

More importantly though, he has outscored Haaland in both of the last two seasons yet he’s priced at £5.0m cheaper.

He’s also got fantastic fixtures to start the season with Sunderland and Burnley in the first 7 gameweeks.

Justin Kluivert - £7.0m

Despite being one of the most popular midfielders last season, Kluivert is barely above 5% owned right now.

We know how dangerous he is from open play AND he’s on penalties, the only thing that’s changed from last season is his price.

Of course, he’s no longer the budget option he was last year but £7.0m isn’t bad for a penalty taker from a very attacking team.

After GW1 their fixtures are also nice with WOL (H) and LEE (A) in GW2 and GW6 respectively.

Murillo - £5.5m

Forest’s Murillo is currently less than 3% owned and that’s probably due to his price.

£5.5m is pretty expensive for a Nottingham Forest midfielder but he could well be good value at that price.

He got more bonus points than any other defender last season and he was an absolute beast for defensive contributions (averaging over 10 per match last season).

Forest also play Sunderland, Burnley and West Ham in their first 6 games.

Danny Welbeck - £6.5m

Welbeck’s currently in around 8% of teams which is surprising low given the pricing in FPL this season.

There aren’t many viable midfield or forward options under £7.0m this season but Welbeck is definitely one.

João Pedro’s move to Chelsea paves the way for Welbeck to take penalty duty at Brighton (he scored one last season when J Pedro wasn’t on the pitch).

The fixtures to start the season aren’t ideal but a penalty taker that should get good minutes is hard to come by at £6.5m this season.

Jørgen Strand Larsen - £6.5m

Very similar to Welbeck in that Strand Larsen is also priced at £6.5m and is also likely to be on penalties with Cunha leaving.

Wolves don’t carry the same attacking threat that Brighton do (especially now that Cunha has left) but they do have better fixtures.

Wolves play Everton, Leeds, Sunderland and Burnley in their first 9 GWs.

Again, a forward that’s on penalties and should get very good minutes should provide decent value at £6.5m.
